Locate about 220 miles (350 km) northeast of Nairobi Meru National Park one of Kenya’s top places for Game Viewing safaris and Adventures. The National Park sits northeast of Mount Kenya, the second highest mountain in Africa. The National Park stretches on a total land area of about 336 square miles (870 sq km). Highlights

The National Park has extensive jungles, grasslands, swamps, rivers, and landscape with an abundance of termite created mounds – all giving tourists a different perspective of the African wilderness and super encounters. No wonder described Meru as “Complete Wilderness”, Meru National Park has a variety to offer from its captivating natural environment that varies to the abundant wildlife is all amazing.  The National Park has a varying elevation all through the park and the lowest spot is located in the southeastern part of the park along the Tana River.  On the other side, the foothills of the Nyambeni Range are the highest point at 3,400 feet (1,036 m).

The national park receives a lot of rain, which allows tall grasses to grow and rich marshes to form.  This makes it a haven for wildlife.  The Tana River, along with the Rojerwero and Ura rivers, is the primary supply of water.  Each of these rivers and its tributaries are surrounded by riverine forests and Dom and raphia palm stands.

The northern section of the park is dominated by rainforest however; the majority of the park is made up of a array bushes and grasslands. The safari park is really scenic with its wildlife making it more worth visiting. There are abundant Acacia trees all over the park.

The commonly spotted species include elephant, giraffe, black rhino, white rhino, kudu, gazelle, hartebeest, reedbuck, zebra, and hippo.  Each of the above-referenced rivers is highly populated with hippopotamuses. The National Park also has a great share of predators that can be seen during safari and these include lion, leopard, cheetah, jackal, African wild cat, and hyena among others.

The National Park is home to some 427 species of birds that you can check off during a bird watching tour in the Park.  The National park also has snakes and while here, expect to have to see pythons, puff adders, and cobras.  Birding safaris are most recommended at the River side for great sightings and the best ways to capture some of the bird species that live along the banks. Ostrich can be found in some of the bushy grasslands of the park.

The Tana River and Adamson’s Falls are additional significant features of the park.  Adamson’s Falls is a flowing waterfall that cascades over steep terrain.
